Monet’s Waterlilies Today as the news from Selma

Monet’s Waterlilies
Today as the news from Selma and Saigon
poisons the air like fallout,
I come again to see
the serene, great picture that I love.

Here space and time exist in light
the eye like the eye of faith believes.
The seen, the known
dissolve in iridescence, become
illusive flesh of light
that was not, was, forever is.

O light beheld as through refracting tears.
Here is the aura of that world
each of us has lost.
Here is the shadow of its joy.

Robert Hayden

Customer Review: Easy listening.
This soundtrack was pretty mellow and easy going. I originally purchased this CD for a catchy tune I heard in the movie but I noticed that particular song and some others were left off of this so I was a little disappointed.
Customer Review: Great Movie - Good Soundtrack
I LOVE this movie, and couldn’t WAIT to get the soundtrack. I really like most of the songs, but glaringly absent was “Down to You” (can’t remember the artist’s name). Since that was my favorite song in the entire movie, I was very disappointed. I could easily have traded “Don’t Wait Too Long” by Madeliene Peyoux for “Down to You”, which, to me, fit in much more with the rest of the music, and is a lot more upbeat. Other than that, I like it. Not as good as a lot of soundtracks, and definitely not as good as the movie, but it’s a keeper.

In 1870, to escape the Franco-Prussian war, Monet went to London and was joined there by Lucien Pissarro. Together the two went to the National Gallery and studied the works of Turner and Constable. Monet returned to Paris via Holland, and in 1872 he went back to LeHavre where he painted “An Impression, Sunrise“.
